The Times, They Are (Not) A’Changin’

Last post was 2016 and then life stuff happened. But reading over my previous musings I find that things really haven’t changed. Our government is much worse, the COVID-19 pandemic has wrecked the US economy thanks to a do-nothing administration run by an idiot, and people are still struggling to meet basic needs.

In a phrase, it sucks.

While I did find a full-time job at a non-profit doing what I love – creating educational courses – I’ve seen first-hand the dark side of this type of business; using the status to pay workers as little as possible. It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve had a pay bump while the CEO continues to hire her friends into management positions. The bad part is there is no one to manage while employees in my department, who actually create things and bring in money, are repositioned into other “programs” that do nothing but talk about all the great things they are going to do. Absolutely no one talks about how we’re going to bring money in to support all these wonderful ideas. A business run by people who know nothing about business.

I suppose I shouldn’t complain as I have a job where many, many others don’t. Also women who state strong opinions and make statements are seen as “whiney” and “bitchy” whereas a man writing this would be seen as an independent thinking with strong ideas.

Interesting how gender can muzzle communication; blaming the messenger while ignoring the message. But I won’t shut up. Deal with it.

It’s amazing how much people have weathered this year with the dumpster fire of a government administration (not gonna name it because that gives it power), with the outright murder of black citizens and absolutely no repercussions, and a deadly virus that has killed over 300,000 Americans. At least that is the number for those of us who still believe in facts and science. It’s amazing how willfully ignorant a portion of the population is and the cries of “fake news” is their answer to everything they don’t like. As a nurse in South Dakota pointed out, they even deny it as they are dying from it. That is literally insane.

Today, Sunday December 27, 2020, marks the official beginning of our economic crisis. The person who was supposed to sign the bill didn’t do it, so now the suffering of Americans intensifies – including that 70 million that voted for the ass-clown. Oh and we have a possible government shut-down on top of that so ain’t no one getting paid for anything come January 1st; sorry disabled people and seniors. Apparently you are expendable. Then there’s the moratorium on evictions which has expired – lots of new homeless people next month. You’re also not important to this administration.

And yet, Republicans gained seats in the House of Representative. Again, insanity.
